In L'Escala, Funtastic offers sailing courses which can be done on dinghies or catamarans, these also being available for rental. Furthermore, we count on several Access dinghies to make sailing possible for everyone.

DINGHY SAILING

The beginner courses of sailing take place at our center on the beach of Riells, south-east of the town of l'Escala, where the wind and waves conditions are excellent to start. For such courses we have a flotilla of dinghies ideal for beginners: Tazz, Topper, RS Feva and Access Dinghies.

If you already know how to sail, you can rent any of these sailboats, as well as some for more experienced sailors like the Lasers or others with gennaker and trapeze as the RS Feva XL, RS Vision XL and Sport'16. On top of this you also have the RS Veleros test center at your disposal, allowing to try several models of the LDC Racing Sailboats, like the RS 200, RS Vareo, RS 700 as well as the Australian Access Dinghies: Access 2.3, 303, Breeze or Liberty all of them meant to make sailing accessible to everybody.

COURSES

We guarantee that you'll be sailing from the first day on. After a short theoretical introduction to the basis of sailing, such as: rigging up, wind, basic trimming, rudder, rhumbs, centerboard, capsize and recovery... You'll be doing some basic practices within the channel of the school and right after, sail away on your own boat under the supervision of our instructors on the safety boat. Alternating periods sailing yourself and of being on the safety boat to receive further explanations, will help to accelerate your learning.

There are many similarities between both water sports, sailing being not as physical as windsurfing but as interesting. The basics and the effects of the wind over the sail are practically the same, but there are important differences regarding the way and the means we dispose of when handling and skipping these two different types of sail boats. In a sailing boat we don't have to stand, we can sit and there is no need of having to hold the rig up right as it stands on its own. Finally, on a sailing boat we have a rudder which allows us to keep and change the direction.

Of course windsurfing requires a higher dedication and effort but this said, at Funtastic we think that the simultaneous learning and practicing of both sports, sailing and windsurfing, facilitate a bigger and better understanding and provide more solid theoretical knowledge of sailing in general. The combination of windsurfing and sailing is one of the most popular formulas of our Blue Week.

Our sailing school follows the standards of the ISSA (International Sailing Schools Association) and the courses are given by instructors of different countries certified by the corresponding national authorities, like the Federaciķn Espaņola and the Federaciķ Catalana de Vela, the RYA (Royal Yacht Association) or the VDS (Vorband Deutscher Sportboatschulen e. V.), etc.
If you wish, at the end of the course and after a short evaluation, you can obtain the ISSA Logbook. In such book you'll register all your courses and sailing experience. This is of use when willing to follow another course in a different sailing school or if ever you wish to rent a sailing boat as is recognized in most countries.

The sailing courses are organized in sessions of two hours from Monday to Friday. We also offer a trial short course doing a double session on a single day, morning and afternoon, which is usually enough to go sail alone with a Topper or Feva S in normal wind and sea conditions, up to 2 Beaufort. This is ideal for a weekend.
