 L'Escala
 Costa Brava - Empordà

A simple visit to several places of our coast, as nice as St. Martí d'Empúries, Cadaqués, Port Lligat, Cala Montgó, Pals, Begur, Calella or Tossa de Mar, makes already worth an excursion to the Costa Brava. But the rich cultural surroundings of the region of the Empordà offers many other points of interest.

Nature lovers can fully enjoy it in pure condition visiting the Cape Creus Natural Park, the first marine-terrestrial Park of Catalonia. Situated at the northern end of the Costa Brava the geological substructure of this peninsula is over 450 million years old. From March till May and August to September, naturalist can enjoy the Salt Marshes of the Empordà, next to St. Pere Pescador, where over 300 different species of birds concentrate every year. Another unavoidable point for the nature lovers is the Under Water Reserve of the Medes Islands, situated at no more than a mile from L'Estartit. Seven small islands compose this archipelago of extraordinary biological value and a real paradise for divers.

Another interesting natural space of the region is placed right in the border between the Empordà and the French Rousillon. This is the mountain-chain of L'Albera, with its wood-lands of oak, beech and evergreen. A part from the natural scenery, this area is notable for its dolmens and menhirs as well as for its Romanesque churches and fortresses as the Castle of Requesens and the Monastery of Sant Quirze de Colera, both from the XI century.

The Greek-Roman Ruins of Empúries and the Dalí Museum of Figueres are two of the most interesting cultural visits to do in the region, but there are many other of high interest some of which we indicate in the map of access.
